Ok #Fediverse let's have a bit of fun today!

How many of the things on the list have you done? Feel free to comment with any additional information as to which you've done or not done.

For me, I've done them all as I'm truly that old!

@panda I miss paper checks in a way, but in a lot of ways I don't.

I don't think y'all had Blockbuster there either. Truly one of the best stores ever from back in the day.

Because I'm from Germany I have two points. Paper checks where never a thing here and blockbuster also did not exist.

@sven222 You're the second person to comment with that and I honestly never knew paper checks never existed there.

They existed, but nobody used them. Only when traveling to other countries.

@sven222 Ah, that makes a bit more sense. So what did everyone use back then, before credit cards and stuff were popular and widely used?

Like today: cash. Never go in Germany to a butcher or bakery only with a credit card. Even cars you pay in cash here. Used cars, new ones by bank transfer.

@sven222 Very neat. Definitely learned something new, so thank you for sharing.

I was born in 1961 and paid for my second (new) car with a check here in Germany in the mid-1980s. Normally, the dealer was only guaranteed the maximum amount of 400 DM per check. So I would have had to write 45 checks. Fortunately, the car dealer trusted me, so I was able to pay the entire amount with one check.
This was another reason why payment by check was not so popular in Germany.
